Memphis was the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom. The builder of this city was King Mena or Narmer. It was called Eneb Hedg, which means the city of the white wall. There is an open museum in Memphis. The most impressive in this museum are two statues. The first of these is made of alabaster and the second of limestone.
The alabaster figure is in the shape of a sphinx. Since we have no inscriptions on it, we cannot attribute the figure to a pharaoh.
But the limestone figure belongs to the great Ramses II. It should be 14 m high and weigh about tons.
